Commander 10 Corps Meets Clerics In Skardu
Skardu: In the wake of violent protests that claimed multiple lives and triggered a prolonged curfew in Skardu and Gilgit, Commander 10 Corps chaired a special high-level meeting here with prominent religious scholars, aiming to promote peace, tolerance, and harmony in the region.
The session was attended by key figures including the Commander FCNA, Inspector General of Police Gilgit-Baltistan, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, other senior government officials, and respected religious leaders from the area.
Participants conducted a detailed review of the overall security situation following the recent unrest, which erupted amid demonstrations over the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Deep sorrow and regret were expressed over the tragic loss of precious human lives during the clashes.

Addressing the gathering, the Commander 10 Corps emphasized the pivotal role of religious leaders in fostering peace, social cohesion, and mutual tolerance within society. He urged them to guide the public—especially the youth—in line with Islamic teachings that promote love, patience, brotherhood, and respect for human life, while steering clear of violence, hatred, and discord.
“Islam teaches compassion, tolerance, fraternity, and the sanctity of human life,” the Commander stated. “It is imperative that religious leaders use their sermons and teachings to strengthen peace, tolerance, and mutual respect in society.”
He expressed confidence that matters related to the recent incidents would be handled strictly in accordance with the law and established procedures, ensuring accountability to deter future occurrences and maintain order.
Religious leaders present at the meeting voiced profound grief over the recent events and shared various practical suggestions for establishing lasting peace in historic Skardu. They stressed the importance of dialogue, tolerance, and responsible conduct to restore and reinforce the city’s traditionally peaceful atmosphere.
The scholars reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging their influence and religious guidance to actively promote peace, brotherhood, patience, and mutual respect among the people, preserving Skardu’s historical identity as a beacon of harmony.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by civil and military authorities to engage community influencers in de-escalating tensions and rebuilding trust following the unrest that saw army deployment, property damage—including attacks on UN offices—and significant casualties across Gilgit-Baltistan.
