Gilgit-Baltistan Schools Set to Resume Operations from Monday
Gilgit – Educational activities in Gilgit-Baltistan are poised to return to normal starting Monday, with all public and private schools and colleges reopening for regular classes following a period of closures linked to security concerns.
According to an official announcement from Shabbir Mir, Spokesperson to the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, routine educational operations will resume across the region from Monday onward.
However, the two major public sector universities — Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit and the University of Baltistan (UoB) — will remain closed throughout the coming week.
Authorities have indicated that a further update regarding their reopening will be issued at a later date.
The directive comes after recent temporary suspensions of classes in key districts like Gilgit and Skardu, which were enforced amid curfews and heightened security measures in early March. Recent reports from local media and officials highlighted extensions of closures in some areas until March 8 due to law and order assessments, including army deployments and public safety evaluations.Parents, students, teachers, and administrative staff have been urged to adhere strictly to the new schedule and prepare for the resumption of academic routines. The announcement reflects efforts by the Gilgit-Baltistan administration to gradually restore normalcy in the education sector while continuing to monitor the overall security environment in the region. Further details on university operations and any potential adjustments will be communicated officially in due course.
