Gilgit (PR): A three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission has completed a comprehensive on-site inspection into the recent incidents in Gilgit-Baltistan that followed the reported martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, in the backdrop of the Iran-Israel conflict.

The Commission, headed by Chairman Justice Malik Inayat-ur-Rehman and comprising Justice Johar Ali and Justice Jehanzeb Khan, conducted a detailed assessment of the scene. It examined physical evidence, evaluated human and material losses, and reviewed the sequence of events along with their underlying causes.

Senior officials of the district administration and police appeared before the Commission and recorded their statements. Among those who deposed were Commissioner Gilgit Division Toqeer Haider Kazmi, DIG Gilgit Region Raja Mazhar Hassan, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Gilgit Adil, SP Gilgit Muhammad Awais, and SDPO City Khadija Tahira. The officers presented detailed accounts covering the background of the incidents, the law and order situation, security arrangements, and the timeline of developments.

The Commission also undertook a technical and legal review of the available evidence, raising key questions to establish facts and determine responsibility. It reiterated its commitment to a transparent and impartial inquiry aimed at ascertaining the complete truth.

Nearly ten local residents also sought permission to record their statements, which the Commission approved in accordance with legal procedures.

The inquiry body has been mandated to examine the causes of the unrest, identify those responsible, and assess the administrative response, with the objective of formulating practical recommendations to prevent similar incidents in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Further proceedings are underway, with additional officials summoned for statements. The Commission is expected to visit Baltistan soon to review the situation on ground, document losses, and gather further evidence.

The final report, along with recommendations, will be submitted to the relevant authorities upon completion of the inquiry.
