Speaking to media, he said the situation had deteriorated rapidly following the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, which led to unfortunate incidents in Gilgit – Baltistan, especially in Baltistan.

The unrest resulted in the loss of precious lives and damage to important military installations as well as public and private property, posing serious threats to law and order in the region.

Ghulam Abbas said that with the strong cooperation of religious scholars and the timely intervention of the government, the situation has significantly improved.

He added that religious scholars, particularly Syed Baqir Al Hussaini and his team, played an important role in restoring calm through patience, restraint and wisdom.

He said the caretaker ministers from Baltistan, including Minister for Health Dr Niaz Ali, Information Minister Ghulam Abbas, Adviser for Social Development and Youth Affairs Fatima Syed Mousavi and Local Government Minister Engineer Latif Hussain, remained in constant contact with religious scholars, the caretaker chief minister, cabinet members, civil administration and security institutions.

He added that women leaders, the military leadership and patriotic citizens also extended full cooperation, helping defeat the designs of miscreant elements.

Ghulam Abbas further said that the three day stay of Caretaker Chief Minister Justice Yar Muhammad and his team from Gilgit in Skardu, which included Interior Minister Sajid Baig, Forest Minister Hafiz Sharafuddin, Tourism Minister Adil Shah, Education Minister Bahadur Ali and Food Minister Mehrdad, helped strengthen trust between the public, the government, the administration and the military leadership.

He said the meetings and dialogue with religious scholars, community elders and women leaders helped remove misunderstandings and doubts.

The minister expressed hope that by March 12 the situation would fully normalize, curfew would be lifted, and flight operations, communication networks and business activities would also be restored.
