Curfew lifted in Skardu as government eases restrictions
SKARDU: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has lifted the curfew imposed in Skardu from March 1, restored internet services, and resumed flight operations, citing improvement in the law and order situation and the difficulties faced by the public.
In a press release issued on March 11, 2026, the government announced that while the curfew has been withdrawn, Section 144 has been imposed across Skardu district as a precautionary measure to maintain peace.Under Section 144, all kinds of processions, gatherings, rallies, and public meetings are banned.
The display or carrying of weapons is also strictly prohibited.Law enforcement agencies will continue intensive checking at checkpoints until the situation returns to complete normalcy.
The government appealed to the people of Skardu to strictly follow the law and extend full cooperation to security personnel. It warned that any violation will be dealt with firmly under the law.
The release added that if any untoward incident or breach of law occurs, restrictions including curfew may be reimposed without delay.
The decision follows days of heightened security measures in Skardu amid recent tensions, which had led to suspension of mobile internet, closure of educational institutions, and halt in air traffic to and from the district.
