Excise Police Launch Drive at Thore Checkpost

Chilas — The Excise Police at the Thore Checkpost in Diamer District have initiated a routine campaign to enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for public service vehicles (PSVs) and rent-a-car services operating in the region.

According to an official update from the Excise and Taxation Department, the operation, conducted on March 10, 2026, involved thorough inspections to promote road safety, regulatory compliance, and fair passenger treatment along key transport routes connecting to Gilgit-Baltistan.

Key areas of focus during the campaign included:- Verification of valid fitness certificates for all vehicles.

– Confirmation of appropriate route permits.

– Ensuring drivers possess valid PSV licenses

– Strict enforcement of government-approved fare and freight rates, especially for rent-a-car operators.

Officials reported that several violators were identified during the checks and penalized accordingly, with measures taken to address non-compliance on the spot.

The Thore Checkpost, strategically located in Diamer District, serves as a critical point for monitoring inter-provincial and regional transport, particularly vehicles traveling between Rawalpindi/Islamabad and various parts of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Similar routine and targeted operations have been frequently carried out at this location in recent months to curb overcharging, ensure vehicle roadworthiness, and maintain orderly transport services amid seasonal travel surges.

This ongoing enforcement effort aligns with directives from the Excise & Taxation, Zakat & Usher, Cooperatives and Transport Department of Gilgit-Baltistan to protect passengers from exploitation and uphold transport regulations in the northern region.

Authorities encouraged operators and drivers to adhere strictly to prescribed rules to avoid penalties in future inspections.
