Gilgit: The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council has strongly condemned the detention of Advocate Ehsan and demanded his unconditional and immediate release.

In a statement issued here on March 11, 2026, the council described the arrest of a practising lawyer as highly disturbing and lacking clear legal grounds, saying it has caused widespread unease among members of the legal profession.

The Bar Council emphasised that lawyers, as officers of the court, are entitled to full respect and must be dealt with strictly in line with due process and the rule of law. It said any violation of an advocate’s rights or dignity is unacceptable.

The council called on the relevant authorities and police to promptly disclose the reasons for Advocate Ehsan’s detention and to ensure that all his legal protections are upheld without delay.It reiterated its demand for the lawyer’s immediate release, warning that any step that compromises the independence or honour of the legal fraternity will not be tolerated.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council affirmed its full support for its member and stated that it will keep a close watch on developments to protect the rights of advocates and defend the principles of justice in the region.
